Peace in Perspective

Epilogue

Only Thee

That I want Thee, only Thee,

Let my heart repeat without end …

As the night keeps hidden in its gloom

The petition for light,

Even thus in the depths of my unconsciousness

Rings the cry:

‘I want Thee, only Thee.’

As the storm seeks its end in peace,

When it strikes against peace

With all its might, and

Strikes against Thy love,

Still its cry is,

‘I want Thee, only Thee.’

(Rabindranath Tagore, 1913, Gitanjali:38)

Yes!

Father,

I abandon myself into your hands;

Do with me what you will.

Whatever you may do

I thank you.

I am ready for all, I accept all.

Let only your will be done in me

And in all your creatures.

I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my spirit;

I offer it to you

With all the love of my heart,

For I love you, Lord,

And so, need to give myself,

To surrender myself

Into your hands,

Without reserve,

And with boundless confidence,

For you are my Father.

(Charles de Foucauld)

Remember

I will pass this way but once,

And if there is any good that I can do,

Let me do it now,

For I’ll never pass this way again.

I will see this day but once,

If there’s any kindness I can show,

Let me show it now,

For I’ll never see this day again.

I will know this world, but once,

And if there’s any love that I can give,

Let me give it now,

O Lord, please show me how,

For I will never know this world,

I’ll never see this day,

I’ll never pass this way again.

(Words from a song sung by Glen Campbell, & based on an old idea)

Peace requires wisdom and continual conversion, a dying to self.
